Emotional neglect is when someone is not provided with the affection and nurturing that they needed. This basically boils down to a person’s childhood but can also happen within romantic relationships later in life.
While we do not often notice, those who have endured emotional neglect are often the strongest people. They are able to work through anything life throws their way and they know who they are. Just because they have been through some things in life doesn’t mean they are broken, some of the emotionally neglected people I know are far more put together than those who were not but only because they worked through their pain and suffering to come out on top.
Below you will find a list of strengths you can and will find in all people who have been emotionally neglected. While emotional neglect is not a good thing, those who have experienced it are still something out of this world. They are far more capable than they are given credit for. Victims of emotional neglect are not as vulnerable as most assume.

1. They are quite understanding.
They have been through a lot and they understand what it is like to be down and out. If something comes up they are usually cool with it. They don’t let other people hold them back.
2. They are able to make the most of every situation.
They take each day for what it is. They don’t let the situations they may be in control them. They are able to find a light even in the darkest room.
3. They are full of compassion.
They do not like to see other people suffering. They are very compassionate and often do what they can for others. They have more empathy than most people do, that is a fact.
4. They are able to adapt to change with ease.
They don’t let things get in their way. If something changes in life, they adapt to it. They are capable of doing great things despite what they have gone through. Life has thrown them far too man curve balls to not be prepared for the next few headed their way.
5. They are far more independent than most other people.
They have gotten used to doing things for themselves. They don’t need anyone else’s help. They get by just fine on their own.
6. They are very giving.
They would give to those in need even if they had nothing to give. They love helping others and are always there for the underdog. If they come across someone who genuinely needs their help, they will be there for them.
7. They are more patient than most other people.
They are able to deal with a lot more than most are. They do not get mad over small things and they are able to handle rough situations quite well. This is something we should all work towards whether we have experienced emotional neglect or not.
